Real Astrologers Weekly Poll: Sun Sign or Rising Sign?

This week’s poll is about how we feel regarding our Sun sign and Rising sign.

Opinion Polls & Market Research

Results of Last Week’s Poll

In last week’s poll, I asked how you felt about the upcoming Mercury retrograde. Here are the results:

16.7% of you were “scared to death”

45.8% said you could “handle it but with caution”

33.3% blithely said “no worries!”

4.2% wondered “what’s Mercury retch?”

As I’ve written, I think we’ll find the most unpredictable facets of this Mercury retrograde are going to level out some after Mercury stops and starts moving backwards (obviously, planets don’t go backwards; that’s just what it looks like from down here). The effects of the Mercury-Uranus square will be passing by then. Of course, if I’m wrong, you all will have a perfect opportunity to say, “I told you so!”

My personal vote was for the second option because I believe by and large that the best approach to Mercury retrograde is to take extra care with all documents, make copies and backup your computer, and allow for delays and confusion.  There are times when we just have to grin and bear it, too.

For the “no worries” crowd, all I can say is there are optimists everywhere! Now I’d really like to see this be the case and will cheer loudly if it is. You all must have a strong Jupiter/Sagittarius influence in your charts.

By the way, “Mercury Retch” is a peevish expression I coined for Mercury retrograde one time when I was getting slammed by the little so-and-so.

I read both and sometimes one is more appropriate than the other …

I think people would see me as a kooky Libra(people say I’m good at being a diplomat at times) whereas I’d see myself more as an Aquarius (but then again I don’t recognise myself at times in descriptions of sun signs sometimes …)

LOL, Mandy!! This is exactly the sort of info we like to see for this question. Your Sun & Rising are both Air signs so there is harmony there.

I would have checked Rising for many years when my progressed Sun was in Scorpio as well as my Ascendant – an example of a 12th house Sun too [Sun qualities hidden from view].

Hm, I have way too much Libra to be able to decide on this. I think I reflect both even though they’re not the same. They’re not very similar so I’m probably confusing. I think I look/act like a Cancer person who is driven towards Libra goals. But with a better wardrobe.

Here’s a dumb question: are tarot cards broken during a Merc xR (and shadow)? (I kept meaning to ask but I forgot.)

The regular ones are being very nice to me lately, whereas they were pretty much disaster for a long time.

The machine generated ones continue to punch me in the face, of course.

Interesting, Max… my favorite pastime these past few weeks is shuffling my tarot sets even thoughI’ve notpicked them up for a few months… I’m even planning on a shopping expedition tomorrow to pick up a new pack…

I can’t answer this one either. It’s not “or” it’s when. I have Leo Ascendant (conjunct Uranus and Moon) and a Virgo Sun (square Saturn in Sag, although Saturn is trine the Ascendant). They’re inconjunct, and very different. But I don’t see how I could only express one of them. They’re both me.

    Hey Jessica,

Sounds like a Venus ruled person to me! ::grin::

Seriously, have one’s Sun sq the sign on the ASC does create a certain dissonance but your Venus in Virgo is the go between here helping considerably.

hmmmmmm – your Sun progressed smartly into Scorpio like mine and there too is a watery connection to your ASC.

Hey Max . . . haven’t done much with tarot in years so Pat will have to answer your tarot question. ::grin:: I know she uses them regularly.

    Hi leslee,

I can’t answer this one either. It’s not “or” it’s when.

I can see your dilemma! With the Moon conjunct the ASC, ‘when’ is valid because of the fluid quality she adds. Perhaps with such a packed 1st house, you have many faces to show the world.

Max, I go in and out of “not working” phases with the Tarot. For awhile I was seeing a pattern of not getting accurate answers during a void-of-course Moon, but even that doesn’t seem true lately.

What bugs me the most is that there have been a couple of times during the past few months when the cards have alerted me to a problem that wasn’t even on my radar screen, and other times that they’ve indicated a certain outcome that was so far off-base I wanted to throw the cards into the nearest dumpster.

I suspect that it may be getting harder to get “answers” because I am more aware than ever of how I create many of the answers myself. And because I’m in flux right now internally, the potential outcomes are in flux, too.

I read once (sorry, can’t remember where) that as you advance along the path, using Tarot as a predictive tool becomes less effective, while using it as a tool for meditation and manifestation becomes more effective.

    Both, I think.

Tricky question, because both my Sun Sign (Gemini) and Ascendant (Virgo) are mutable and Mercury ruled. So when I’m finding it difficult to concentrate or feeling nervous I’m never quite sure which one to blame! I think I owe my sense of fun (thank heavens for it) to Gemini. And a love of language. The perfectionism and worry belong to Virgo.

I always read the Rising sign forecasts in the newspaper, though quite often I’ll go for Libra as my ascendant is in the last few degrees of Virgo.

    Hi mm,

I read Sagittarius because the planets fall in the correct houses more often than with Scorpio. Of course, the house system used affects where the planets fall too. ::grin::

This could easily lead to a discussion of how the Mode of the Ascendant and Sun affect our perception too. Are Mutables more inclined to go “either or”, Fixed choose one and stick with it no matter what and because I’m a Libra I can’t decide about Cardinals?!

I chose Sun Sign but I’m not sure! I don’t think I reflect the fire in both my Sun and Rising signs, even though I certainly am Fire (inside).

These days I’m more inclined to consider the importance of a relocation chart particularly because I’ve only lived for a few months in my birthplace. And my relocated rising sign would be Pisces. I don’t think I reflect the go-and-get-it kind of Aries that my chart says.

I ended up choosing my Sun sign because I have a sagittarius body type. Now that I’m thinking about it all again I’m having even more doubts. :P
