Ask Real Astrologers: When Can I Make a Move?

This week’s question comes from Zana in Bosnia:

I would like to go somewhere and find a job but don’t know where to start. I am thinking to come back to [the U.S.], if I sell my condo then I will have money to start. If you could see in my chart what is going on with selling that condo, that would be nice. We got an offer three months ago and since then we are waiting.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Zana, when it comes to real estate questions, we look for transits to the fourth house, which rules home and family, and to the eighth house, which rules income from sources other than what you earn on the job. Real estate profits fall in this sector.

Saturn, the planet of limitation, currently is moving through your fourth house, suggesting that you may be “stuck” at home, which may be hindering your attempts to find a job. However, with Uranus opposite Saturn in your tenth house of career, it’s possible that you may find a sudden opportunity soon. Uranus currently is retrograde, but he returns direct on December 1. That’s not so far away.

At the same time, we are in a series of eclipses that is affecting your eighth house, along with your second house, which concerns earned income. There is a solar eclipse on Jan. 15, 2010, in your eighth house that could signal some real estate income, although that is not the only potential outcome of that eclipse.

Since you are talking about relocating to a new country, we also can look to the ninth house, which is associated with long-distance travel. Neptune, Chiron, and Jupiter are stacked up in this area of chart. Of the three, Jupiter is the best indicator of expansion and good fortune. The Big Guy is retrograde right now, which lessens his beneficial influence, but you may get some leads on work or living arrangements after he returns direct on October 13.

Your chances for everything lining up look best around the first of the year. But of course we’ll keep our fingers crossed that it happens sooner.

Hang in there, and keep us posted!

By the way, Zana gets major points for following our instructions for submitting questions. She gave us full birth data, her current location, and a specific question. Even after our column last week, we continue to get questions with no birth data. We’re astrologers, not psychics!

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Zana, my feeling is that Uranus transiting over your Moon, ruler of the fourth house, in the spring of next year will bring new direction and possible relocation. Uranus transits encourage us to do what is best for us as individuals, a good thing for those who tend to put the needs of others before their own, to their detriment.

Another celestial event coming up in December is Mars in Leo going retrograde for a couple of months. Mars will be going back and forth over your natal Uranus, triggering a square to Venus, ruler of your Sun in Taurus. You may want to keep in mind that you will be feeling much less patient with things than you usually do.

As the fourth Saturn-Uranus opposition grows closer in late March and April 2010, prepare to feel an increase in tension, because this one will exactly conjoin and oppose your Moon. Having several options as to what you want to do would be a good idea. Uranus is noted for last-minute changes due to unexpected events.

I know fixed-sign Sun people like you with lots of earth in their charts prefer to take their own sweet time and don’t like to be rushed! That’s why having a plan with many flexible options is extra important.

Good luck, Zana, and I wish you smooth transitions to your new home wherever that may be!

Real Astrologer’s Poll: Recovering from Saturn-Uranus and the New Moon?

The third Saturn-Uranus opposition is history, along with last week’s New Moon in Virgo. We’re wondering how that went for you.

Online Surveys & Market Research

For me, the third pass of the Saturn-Uranus was much less dramatic in terms of external events than the one on November 4, 2008, and February 5, 2009 – and believe me, I am very grateful for that. We have roughly six months until the next exact pass on April 26, 2010 at 28 degrees Virgo-Pisces before this show moves into Aries-Libra. Now that will be exciting!!

Weekly Forecast September 21: Sun Enters Libra

Venus in VirgoThis should be a fairly quiet week, and yet it won’t be without movement. Shifts continue to take place, but overall they’re less jarring.

We still have just over a week left to Mercury retrograde, and while certain events may be happening without any effort on your part, don’t be too confident or too fast to embrace them. Changes are still likely, as well as delays and perhaps a change of heart by others. Or you may change your mind about something you thought was a done deal. And, of course, all the usual caveats still apply: no signing contracts, making major purchases, or starting important new projects. Stall, if you can, until the middle of next week.

Venus, meanwhile, has entered discreet Virgo, not her favorite sign. From the tone of your comments, most of you have not been out partying all night for the past several weeks, and yet for one reason or another, you might need a reminder to treat your body right by increasing your exercise, eating more vegetables, and reducing your intake of fat, sugar, and toxic substances. I swear, I gained three pounds this weekend just by looking at a piece of chocolate cake. OK, so I didn’t just look. But who gains three pounds in a weekend?

If you need help rebalancing your system, the Sun’s entry into Libra on Tuesday also will help. This is the equinox — fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the southern half of the world — when the days and nights are of equal length. Libra is ruled by Venus, and we can use the Sun’s passage through Libra to find harmony and balance within ourselves. For many of us, planetary influences since last spring have pushed us past our limits and created a lot of stress. We need to regain our center.

The Sun squares Pluto on Wednesday, which may provide us with yet another glimpse of what we might expect with the impending cardinal T-square between Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. The Moon joins the pattern on Friday, when she conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. Keep your antennae up this weekend for anything that seems new or unusual. If you’re asked to stretch outside your comfort zone, try it.

On Thursday, Mars conjoins Comet Lulin in Cancer. I admit that I don’t have a solid grasp of what this means, as we don’t know enough about Lulin yet. This mysterious visitor appears to be working on a subtle level, urging us to look back at where we’ve been before we can move forward. Moving backward through Cancer suggests looking back at our childhood and genetic roots for clues about what we need to know.

Wishing you all lots of love and a much-needed break,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

Saturday Archives: Another Perspective on Ceres – Natural Cycles

The doorway behind the liliesIn honor of the potent New Moon in Virgo, I dug out this article on Ceres, mother of Persephone and mother-in-law of Pluto.

Ceres is traditionally associated with hard work, mothering of older children, nurturing, food – especially fruits and vegetables, farming/gardening and other earthy matters.

However, a recent article in The Mountain Astrologer by Carrie Megginson, “Asteroid Goddesses and Birth Order”, shows Ceres in a different light. She suggests Ceres is far more pragmatic and bent on selecting and refining the characteristics of the external world to meet her needs and moods. The Moon is the place to look for endless warmth and nurturing. I found her idea of relating Ceres to the ever returning cycles of the farming year very sound: cycles of plenty and want, growth and death, preparation and consumption. It’s this awareness of natural cycles that I had in mind when looking at the charts of people I know to see the part Ceres played.

Ceres Aspecting Personal Planets

The first thing I looked for was Ceres forming any type of aspect to a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars). Since I have no real sense of how powerful Ceres is I didn’t use an orb of more than three degrees at most. What I found was the type of aspect, either major or minor, didn’t seem to make that much difference; it was the connection that mattered. If there was no close aspect, then it appeared that Ceres was not particularly active in their charts or in their lives.

What emerged was those people with Ceres in aspect to their personal planets have an interest in and an awareness of the cycles of Nature. If they were farmers like my husband and father, then they were very in touch with the weather, the changing of the seasons and how that would affect the crops they were growing. My brother has been involved in research into the ebb and flow of the Arctic ice – very much related to the larger cycles! Others of us have a deep reverence and appreciation for this planet we live on and are always aware of what’s happening out-of-doors. There are lots of gardeners in this group of the sort who need to have some kind of green, growing things around them at all times – inside and outside. There are several people who could be considered pagan in their belief system.

Ceres in the Houses

When I looked to see what house Ceres fell in another interesting pattern emerged. I will stipulate that I only noted the house if I was sure of the birth time.

Two people had Ceres in their first house. One of those is my husband who has his Moon conjunct Ceres and his whole identity revolves around growing crops of one kind or another. He reads National Geographic magazine cover to cover and insists we sit and watch the local weather report together if possible. This is an individual deeply attuned to the rhythms of the Natural World. The other person is our beloved tseka who told us others see her slender self as an “Earth Mother” figure and whose paintings show a profound relationship with cycles, seasons and nature. For both of these individuals the face they show the world is one of a deep connection to Nature.

There were four of us with Ceres in the third house. Of those four, three of us use either photos we’ve taken or carefully selected pictures to illustrate the point we’re seeking to make in regards to the cycles of the world around us. The fourth person is a wordsmith who uses words to evoke the images. All of us are devoted to communicating our deep interest and awareness of Nature and her cycles.

The people with Ceres in their fourth house or on the cusp of the fourth house have sought to reconnect to the old ways in one form or another. Two of them are a gay couple who have a life style based on Wicca belief systems and honor those beliefs as their roots. Another makes the trip every July to the Black Hills in South Dakota to take part in the Sun Dance of the Sioux peoples even though as far as I know he’s not Native American in ancestry. By the way, that’s a very, very grueling way to celebrate the connection to Gaia . . .

The sixth house group is in the health-care field one way or another. My Scorpio sister has spent the better part of her adult life caring for elderly people in their homes, seeing that they have decent food and care and easing the way as their lives draw to a close. She has a strong sense of the cycles of growth and death. Another individual is determined to make changes to our broken health care system from the inside and she’s on her way to becoming a hospital administrator. And we are all familiar with Joe’s deep knowledge of healthy lifestyle and foods.

The two people with a twelfth house Ceres I don’t know well enough to get more than a sense that these are the ones who hold the dream of best possible dance of Gaia, possibly the most important ones of all even if they are not aware of it yet.

In conclusion, I wish to make a further distinction between those individuals that have a “green thumb” and those with an active Ceres. As a person with both, as well as a Virgo Midheaven, from my perspective Ceres energy concerns itself with the big picture, the larger cycles as well as the day-to-day cultivating of growing things, etc. From all the people whose charts I’ve noted, I get the sense they have an awareness of the necessity and importance of connecting to the deep rhythms of this planet we live on. How they apply that awareness is shown by the house Ceres is posited in.

I would love to hear from others on Ceres in their charts too!

Ask Real Astrologers: Why Didn’t You Answer My Question?

Got a question? This week’s question comes from Jane in Middletown, KS:

My life is a complete mess and I need your advice. I’ve submitted my question to you several times but you never use it in this column. What do I have to do to get your attention?

OK, we admit, this is a fake question. We made it up in order to provide some very important information.

The fact is, we get dozens of submissions, and many of them are very good questions that we would love to address. But we can’t even begin to know what’s going on in your chart if we do not have complete birth data. We have to discard at least 90 percent of the questions we receive for this reason. And while the above question was created tongue-in-cheek, we actually have received e-mail saying this is the second or third time the reader has asked and hopes we will address her question this time.

Complete birth data means this:

Date, location, and time, to the best of your knowledge. If it’s a guess, let us know. We ask that you please spell out the month, because Americans and Europeans flip the dates, and it has happened that we used the wrong one and had to rewrite our answer.

We need to know where you currently are located. This is not optional. We’ve said many times, and we’ll say again, that we do not reveal your birth data in our answer. Occasionally we’ll remark that you share things with others in your generation — for example, if you were born during a significant aspect between outer planets. This could give away your age, but nothing more. Beyond that, if you want us to use a different name, just sign your e-mail with the name you’d like us to use. It’s that simple.

We have received some questions with all of the data and have discarded them anyway, either because they are too broad or because they involve another person. Our column is not a substitute for a complete reading with an astrologer, which is what you need if you feel like your life is completely out of control and needs a complete makeover.

Ethically, it’s not responsible for us to take your husband’s (boyfriend’s, best friend’s, daughter’s) data and tell you why this person is behaving so badly. We can look at your chart, however, and tell you in general if you’re going through a transit in which you are prone to relationship challenges.

We love taking your questions. It’s one of the most rewarding things about this Web site. So please would you follow our instructions for submissions. Keep those cards and letters coming!

Got a quick question? Click here to contact Ask Real Astrologers. You must use this form to contact us, or we don’t get your question. Be sure to fill out all the fields, and please spell out the month of your birthday. If you don’t know your time of birth, indicate “time unknown.” Thanks!

Weekly Forecast September 14: Saturn Opposite Uranus, New Moon in Virgo

Disoriented! (Photo by AFP.)Well, this week is getting off to a galloping start. Already I’ve got at least two Mercury retrograde mix-ups and one jaw-dropping shocker. And it’s only Monday!

The dominant energy this week is Saturn’s opposition with Uranus at 25 degrees Virgo-Pisces. Neith and I both have been writing about this, and there’s not a whole lot more to say. If you need a refresher, check out my Saturday Extra! posts on August 22 and August 29.

This heavyweight aspect is amped up several volts by Friday’s New Moon at 26 degrees Virgo. As if that’s not enough, Mercury is retrograde and backtracks from Libra into Virgo on Thursday. At the New Moon, he’ll be sitting at 29 degrees, which for all practical purposes is conjunct the New Moon.

The New Moon typically represents new beginnings, but it’s sure tough to know what this one will bring, given the complications. Typically, when Mercury is retrograde at the New Moon, outcomes are delayed until Mercury returns direct. In addition, we may have to finish up some old business before we can start fresh, and that could end up being an arduous process.

The New Moon isn’t until Friday, but we’ll feel the effects strongly on Thursday, when the Sun opposes Uranus and conjoins Saturn.

Although Jupiter and Neptune aren’t directly in aspect with this New Moon, they are indirectly involved via the mutual reception between Uranus and Neptune, as well as the inconjunct from Saturn to Neptune. To those who believe that healing isn’t taking place, I’d like to point out that what looks like continual wounding is a form of healing. Just like a physical wound that needs to be kept open to drain, we’re being kept open and raw in order for the old patterns to release. It is painful, I know.

In any case, Neith will have more on this heavily charged New Moon, either tomorrow or Wednesday, so check back.

Speaking of Neptune & Co, Venus opposed Jupiter last week, and this week she opposes Chiron on Monday and Neptune on Tuesday. The Moon enters Leo on Monday and acts as an amplifier on Tuesday and Wednesday. Normally, we need to be wary of Venus-Neptune transits, which can translate to deceptive romantic relationships and self-delusions. Although this certainly may be the case this week, I think it’s possible our eyes will be opened, thanks to the “interference” of sobering Saturn.

Before re-entering Virgo on Thursday, Mercury squares Pluto, the second of three passes he makes during this retrograde cycle. If you find yourself obsessed with one subject or person, stop to think about why. For example, if you can’t stop thinking about a certain someone who isn’t right for you, perhaps there’s a message for you about what you need to learn before you can find someone better. The lesson may not be anything more than recognition of an unconscious behavior pattern.

This theme continues through the weekend, as the Sun conjoins Mercury on Sunday. Also on Sunday, Venus enters Virgo and trines Pluto. Although this normally lusty combination is in earth signs, the planet of love and desire is subdued in the sign of the Virgin. Passion is tempered, and we can stop long enough to remember to take safety precautions. This applies whether you’re in a physical relationship or undertaking some other endeavor.

Much love and courage to you all,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

Saturday Extra! I Blame It on Mercury Retrograde

Photo by The Associated PressSurely I’m not the only astrologer who read about yesterday’s 9/11 Coast Guard snafu and automatically thought, “Mercury retrograde!”

But this is not just any Mercury retrograde. Pluto was stationed and just hours from returning direct. Saturn and Uranus are close to exact opposition. Mars is about to cross the degree of an eclipse in July that was the first in a new series. More about all of this below. First, let’s have a quick look at what happened.

The U.S. Coast Guard was conducting what it called routine training exercises on the Potomac River, just as President Obama was arriving at the Pentagon for services commemorating the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The CNN newsroom heard the chatter on its police scanner and mistook it for a real attack, and other media picked up the story. CNN staff later said they tried to verify the story with the Coast Guard, who said they knew nothing. But the network made the decision to run with the story anyway. As a result, flights out of the busy D.C. airport were delayed, and even the Coast Guard was confused about whether the attack was real or just a drill.

In a press briefing at the White House, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs got into a tiff with the reporter covering the conference for CNN, blaming the incident on the network and saying they should have checked their facts before broadcasting the story. Both the White House and the Coast Guard refused to apologize for the snafu, but the Coast Guard later issued a press release saying it would conduct a full review of the incident and hinted that the boats involved in the drill may have been using the wrong radio channel to communicate with each other.

Of course, any glitch in communications is automatically a function of Mercury retrograde. But this was a very big oops! I took a look at the chart for the event, which, according to news reports, began at 9:30 a.m. The Ascendant is 21 degrees Libra, with Mercury retrograde in the twelfth house, the sector ruled by Neptune, the confusion planet and also one of the two planets that rules shipping. Jupiter is the other, and chart ruler Venus was exactly opposite Jupiter, who is retrograde but still in close conjunction with Neptune.

Pluto was three hours from returning direct after five months retrograde. He’s stationed at 0 degrees Capricorn, in the third house, which concerns communications, and he’s square retrograde Mercury. In the original chart for the 9/11 attacks, Pluto was in close opposition with Saturn, which many astrologers considered a key indicator of the attacks, since Pluto rules subversive elements in society.

In yesterday’s chart, Pluto also is in wide opposition to war planet Mars at 10 degrees Cancer, the closest planet to the Midheaven at 24 degrees Cancer. The United States is a Cancer nation, concerned with security, a keyword for Cancer. The ninth house, where Mars is located in this chart, includes training and improving skills.

That all chart four angles are in cardinal signs is a clue to what this event might signify, other than just a very big Mercury retrograde mistake. Mars is about to cross the degree of the lunar eclipse of July 7, which was the first in a new series of eclipses in Capricorn and Cancer. These eclipses are going to amplify the cardinal energy of 2010, when Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto form a T-square in Libra, Aries, and Capricorn. The handwriting is appearing on the wall, and it’s starting to look like a road sign for how to move forward.

There are two other interesting things to note about this chart. First, Ceres is on the Ascendant, signifying that wisdom ultimately prevailed. We may not always be this lucky, but we can hope, and perhaps as more women take up positions at high levels of government, we’ll adopt a more balanced approach to war and national defense.

Second, Comet Lulin is lurking in the background. On Sept. 11, 2001, Lulin was at 24 degrees Pisces, which is where Uranus currently is sitting and where he’ll be opposed by Saturn next week. Lulin conjoined Saturn in late February at 20 degrees Virgo. At the time, Saturn was the only planet retrograde, which was notable, because Lulin moves backwards, unlike any other known comet. Now Saturn is moving forward and Uranus is retrograde. There seems to be a message here about going back, remembering, and understanding how we got where we are as a prerequisite to moving forward.

Mars and Lulin will conjoin at 17 degrees Cancer on September 24. I don’t know if we’ll see any effects, but keep your eyes and ears open for anything that improves our understanding about past events or how we got to be the way we are.

Meanwhile, perhaps there’s a clue in a statement to the media by the Coast Guard’s chief of staff, John Currier, following yesterday’s mix-up.

“We’re going to take a good hard look at what we did here today and ensure that if we need to modify procedures, if we need to modify notification, we will do so in the future,” he said.

Much love and courage to all,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

Ask Real Astrologers: All Work and No Play

This week’s question comes from Susan in Dallas:

I have always been a hard worker but recently it seems like every time I turn around, someone hands me more work to do in the same time frame. This is wearing me down and I’m exhausted all the time. Is this ever going to end?

Libra ponders . . .

Susan, the culprit is likely transiting Saturn in Virgo traveling through your fifth house over the past couple of years and aspecting your Aries planets in the twelfth house by inconjunct. The combination of Saturn being a party pooper in the fifth house and reminding you via the inconjunct of the old adage about “suffer or serve” associated with the twelfth house has not left you much time to relax.

Another important factor is that transiting Saturn has been triggering the Yod in your chart with your natal Saturn conjunct Venus as the apex with a base of Pluto-Moon-Jupiter in Virgo sextile Neptune in Scorpio. You share this pattern with many other people born from approximately June 1968 through April 1969, and with personal planets tied closely to two points on the Yod you feel it keenly.

Saturn is not happy in Aries because he squelches the forthright pioneering spirit of this headstrong fire sign. Neptune and Pluto are in water and earth signs, Scorpio and Virgo. Scorpio prefers to work in the shadows and Virgo always wants to double-check the facts before taking action – both approaches radically different from Aries. All these tensions are in the process of being brought to a head by transiting Saturn.

How do you survive this? The antidote is found within the problem, as it does in homeopathy: Saturn. More than any other planet, Saturn rewards consistent, productive, mature actions. What you found so oppressive in your 20s and caused you to feel like all you did was work, work, work, will now be the source of your salvation. When the grasshoppers are falling right and left, the ants will rule!

Saturn will move into Libra at the end of October and off your Virgo stellium. Things will hopefully ease up some for awhile. Take advantage of that to do something nice just for you – like having a massage with scented candles and soft music in a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.

Be kind to yourself, Susan, over the coming months and allow Saturn to reward you.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Susan, whenever I hear “work, work, work,” the first thing I think of is Saturn. Neith is our resident Saturn advocate and has done a fine job of delineating the meaning of transiting Saturn in your chart.

However, you have a lot of other things going on, too. I know I sound like a broken record, but I can’t emphasize strongly enough that when you have this many transits all entwined with each other, there is no substitute for a complete reading with a professional astrologer. If you try to use online reports, which are generated by a computer, you may get some useful information, but they won’t make sense as a whole. Only a skilled astrologer can synthesize the pieces and explain how they fit together. And, as I’ve said many times, that’s beyond the scope of this column.

With that caveat, let me make a couple of brief observations.

Saturn transiting the Moon, even without the complicating Yod, can be a period in which you feel depressed and isolated, and often it coincides with troubles at home or with parents, especially your mother. With Pluto in on the action, that trouble could extend to other relatives as well. In addition, with Saturn transiting your Pluto-Moon-Jupiter conjunction, your natural ambition and desire to achieve is being thwarted. Others may indeed be getting in your way, but you also may wish to examine your goals and your methods of achieving them.

This is all the more important as we head into next year’s cardinal T-square, which is going to have a big impact on you. It will be more important than ever that you examine yourself honestly, even ruthlessly, to determine what motivates you. For example, if you attempt to control your environment and those around you because you fear for your survival, those efforts could blow up in your face. The cause and effect may not be obvious, so you will need to dig deeply. This is not easy work, and most people are not able to do it alone. Start building your support network now. The key will be finding people who can help you grow, not those who keep you stuck by telling you what you want to hear.

The very best of luck to you. Let us know how it goes.

Ask Our Readers: Saturn, Venus and Aging Gracefully

Michelle Pfieffer at 50Over the course of the past year I’ve been living through my second Uranus square Uranus transit. That and Pluto conjoining my progressed Sun in Capricorn have me thinking about what it means to grow older along with taking a look at the clues in our charts showing how we will handle this phase.

Of course I immediately thought Saturn because that is the planet most associated with how we mature and with time. However, after further consideration and bouncing some of my ideas off Pat, I realized Venus has a role to play too. If your Venus is in aspect to Saturn, or in Saturn ruled Capricorn, perhaps this will make the adjustments to the aging process easier – or not.

My Venus in Sagittarius is widely trine to Saturn in Leo and I know I’ve benefited a great deal from Saturn’s tempering influence. When I was undergoing my second Saturn return a couple of years ago, transiting Saturn was trine Venus and then triggered the natal trine when it conjoined my natal Saturn. This brought to the fore all the issues about using hormone replacement therapy, plastic surgery or botox, and various other means to look younger. The only course of action I have ever considered is the old standby of eating a healthy diet and staying active both mentally and physically. Going to extreme means to look younger and sexually attractive makes me shudder.

However, there are many variations on this theme and I’m wondering what importance this issue has for you and what is going on in your chart to support your thoughts and feelings.

Libra seeks balanceposted by Neith . . .

Image: Photo of Michelle Pfeiffer at fifty. She had Venus in Pisces square Saturn in Sagittarius and allegedly has not resorted to plastic surgery as have so many of her compatriots. I did look at several celebrity charts of those who aged well and found Venus-Neptune aspects rather than Saturn. A little illusion can go a loooong ways. LOL

Weekly Forecast September 7: Mercury Retrograde, Pluto Direct

Mercury Appearing to AeneasIf nothing else, this is going to be quite an interesting week. Rather than putting labels “good” or “bad” on it, I suggest only that you keep your antennae up for certain kinds of experiences, as these will contain information that could be critical for your future.

I say that, because most aspects of any consequence this week fall in the early degrees of the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn — and this is going to give us a taste of the cardinal T-square that starts next year, when Jupiter and Uranus enter Aries. At times during 2010 and 2011 when faster-moving planets are in Cancer, we’ll have a grand cross. This is going to be a wildly instable period during which we’ll experience sweeping changes, as individuals and collectively.

So why worry about that now? Well, not to be alarmist, but by the time the collective changes are upon us, our options for dealing with them may be severely limited. Those who foresee the challenges and act accordingly will be better prepared for what could be some pretty serious disruption.

We begin the week with Mercury stationed retrograde at 6 degrees Libra, in a separating square with Mars. Mercury retrograde periods are great for reflecting, rethinking, revising, and regrouping, but not so good for reacting.

The nice thing about Mercury retrograde in Libra is that we are better able to find the balance in refraining from action. There will be plenty of opportunity for that in the future. Do be prepared for the inevitable frustrations and delays, though, and you know all the rules by now about not buying expensive toys, especially electronics, while Mercury is in retreat.

Mercury also is in an applying square to Pluto, who turns direct on Friday at 0 degrees Capricorn. You’ll feel this shift most strongly if you’re a Scorpio or Rising Scorpio or if Pluto is transiting a key planet or angle in your birth chart.

Pluto will be part of next year’s T-square, with Uranus in Aries and Saturn in Libra. From now until July 2011, we’re also in a series of eclipses in Capricorn and Cancer, which will act as an accelerator to change. This series began a couple of months ago, and while some of you felt them, my general feeling is that their messages were delayed. With Mercury retrograde and Mars coming up on the degree of the first eclipse in the series (exact on September 19), those messages will get louder in the next few weeks.

We may hear some whispers this Saturday, when the Moon enters Cancer. She’ll oppose Pluto and square Mercury before conjoining Mars on Sunday. Lunar transits are fleeting and don’t always register on our radar screen, but if you try to tune in, you should get some feedback. Once again, try not to put a label on it. Just observe. I’ll be recording my impressions in my journal.

The only other aspects this week of note are oppositions from Venus to Neptune & Co. She starts out by aspecting Jupiter on Friday and then aligns across from Chiron late Sunday (Monday morning on the East Coast of the United States and in the Eastern Hemisphere). I don’t foresee anything too jarring here. Indeed, if you’ve been impacted by this powerful three-way conjunction, she may help you make some sense out of it and assimilate the new information into your body/mind. It may not be the most comfortable feeling, but it won’t hurt too much, either.

Keep your eyes and hearts open.

Much love,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat
