Saturday Extra! Going Retro with Mars in Leo

Leg warmersI’ve been invited to a birthday party this evening with an 80s theme. How ironic to have a party with a retro theme, the night before Mars turns retrograde in Leo, the party sign that loves flash and glitter.

What’s more, Mars is opposite Jupiter, lord of everything big and over-the-top. That pretty much sums up fashion in the 80s … which, as I recently discovered, has made a dreaded comeback.

I searched for some astrological reason that we might be returning to the years of Ronald Reagan, supply side economics, Big Oil, and big hair. Maybe Jupiter conjunct Neptune? Beats me. I did find out that Mars in Leo was opposed to Jupiter in Aquarius in 1985. The opposition was exact at 11 degrees on August 11, with Mars direct and Jupiter retrograde. Could that be significant? I’ll have to think about it, after I’ve figured out what to wear tonight.

Part of the deal is that everyone has to come in 80s attire. Never mind that the birthday girl is turning 30 and probably doesn’t remember much of the 80s.

Then, neither do I. In an attempt to keep my life simple and uncluttered, I have not saved a single item of clothing from the 80s. Heck, I barely remember what I wore back then. As a 20-something, I should have been following all the latest trends. I can say with certainty that I never owned a pair of leg warmers, fishnet stockings, or jewelry with crosses. I did, however, wear large earrings and gargantuan shoulder pads (they balanced out my wide butt), and I was thoroughly guilty of big hair and blue eye shadow.

Since that was what actually what I wore, I decided to start there for my party costume. My first stop was Granny’s Attic, the place to shop on Vashon, where we’ve got this recycle thing down. There are two shops on Vashon where you can buy new clothing and three thrift shops. On any given Saturday, Granny’s has a long line at the cash register, which isn’t true for most retail stores these days.

For $5.50, I found a warm-up jacket in pale yellow parachute silk with big, puffy shoulder pads. I put it on and howled. It just screams 80s. I came home all smug and happy … until I started thinking about what to wear with it. It probably came with matching parachute pants, and the original buyer might have dressed it up with heels or down with Reeboks.

Reeboks! Yes, I had a pair of those, the high-tops with the Velcro straps. They still make them, and you can buy them online. I ordered a pair and kept my fingers crossed that they’d arrive on time and would fit. You know, Mercury in shadow, Mars about to go retrograde. It’s enough to make an astrologer bite off all her nails before painting them torrid fuchsia.

I envisioned leggings and a short jean skirt to cover my hips. Since the 80s are allegedly back, I figured I could just walk into Nordstrom and find legwarmers. Meanwhile, I researched the hair and makeup. For that, I Googled Dallas, Dynasty, Madonna, and Cyndi Lauper. Flame red spikes are out of the question, but a couple of twisted bandanas and a lot of mousse and hairspray should do the trick. Oh, and I’ll need an eye shadow duo in blue and orange, and “wet look” lip gloss.

With my list in hand, I ventured into the city. There wasn’t a pair of legwarmers to be had anywhere. No skirt, either. Lots of leggings. I tried them on alone. No, no, no. After three hours of shopping and a four-hour roundtrip commute, I came home with a pair of large leopard-print hoop earrings and a couple of bracelets.

A week went by, and I was starting to panic. Rather than leggings and a skirt, I thought about a Plan B: tapered jeans and slouch socks. I ventured into the city again. Two hours and two dozen pairs of jeans later, I found a pair that fit. Almost. They’re too short, but I’ll just roll them up and show off my vintage shoes.

Legs and butt covered, I shifted to cosmetics. In the past two years, I’ve bought a couple of eyeliner pencils and some Burt’s Bees colored lip balm. All of the makeup I own fits into a four-by-six-inch pouch. I went to three separate stores, none of which had exactly what I needed. Exasperated, eyes glazed over, I had to make a decision or I’d miss the last bus to the ferry.

It was late when I got home, but I just had to see how everything looked together. As I was pushing back the elasticized sleeves on the jacket, I heard a rip. The fragile fabric was torn in two spots near the elbow, and when I inspected it more closely, discovered that the fabric casing over the elastic was disintegrating!

I spent part of yesterday back at our thrift stores, looking for alternatives, but nothing worked. So, I told myself, I will go the party with a disintegrating jacket, and that’s that. I’ll bet no one even will notice.

I also told myself that there was a lesson here and even more irony. The 80s were about rabid consumption. Like everyone else in that era, I spent money freely and carelessly. I had more stuff than space to put it. I worked long hours and wrecked my health to make money so I could buy even more stuff. Life was cluttered and complicated. It’s no wonder that 80s fashion reflected that.

To accessorize my $5 “bargain” jacket, I’d spent nearly $150, even though I was very selective and bought everything on sale.

I took a deep breath and made sure I wrote my abundance check when I got home. I also vowed that, after the party, I will give the extraneous makeup to some friend’s teenagers and donate my unwanted clothes to Granny’s, which gives the proceeds to the health center to help cover the costs of treating uninsured residents. This is a much better economic model, and one that I can feel good about supporting.

Wishing you a holiday season full of all the things that really matter,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

P.S. Photos on Monday!

Image: What I won’t be wearing! But, hey, if I’d started searching early enough, I could have ordered a pair online. There’s nothing you can’t get on the Internet. These go for $16 from American Apparel.

Ask Real Astrologers: Why Can’t Mom and Daughter Get Along?

This week’s question comes from Charlotte in Pennsylvania:

My daughter and I can’t seem to be in the same room for very long. Her Saturn and Mars are conjunct my Moon and Uranus in the ninth house. Could this be the culprit? Her Moon sits on her Ascendant at 7 Virgo. She is an emotional basket case, and I’m raising her child … Any insight would be very helpful.

P.S She thinks she’s pregnant again!

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Charlotte, not only is her Saturn-Mars conjunct your Moon-Uranus, but her Uranus conjoins your Ascendant, only adding to the unpredictability factor. I would not be surprised to find that you both think the other is impulsive and very independent-minded.

However, you two do have many parallel signatures in your natal charts. You both have Moon square Neptune, Venus aspecting Neptune, Venus aspecting Pluto, and natal Moon-Uranus aspects. These parallels hold out hope for greater understanding between you, but it may take some doing to end up in the same place at the same time long enough to get there.

Saturn in Libra will conjoin her Pluto in October 2010 and your Sun in December 2010. Since her Pluto is closely inconjunct her Venus-Jupiter in Taurus, it does look like that transit is going to be an important one for her. Perhaps she will be forced into taking responsibility in some way, or at the very least her pursuit of pleasure will be curtailed.

If she is indeed pregnant again, you may be in the unenviable position of having to decide whether or not you have the resources, both emotional and financial, to rear another child. Is there anyone you can talk this over with? Here is where a neutral third party could do you both a world of good.

I wish you well, Charlotte, in finding your path to resolution of your relationship with your daughter. There are no easy answers, as no doubt you are already aware.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Charlotte, I agree with Neith that this is a difficult chart combination with no easy answers. It reminds me of those times when I know that planetary transits are interfering with my ability to relate to others or to one person in particular, and still I can’t keep myself from doing or saying the wrong thing. In such cases, astrology can help us understand the obstacles in our path, but finding a way to remove them is another matter.

Still, at least you know what you are dealing with — and, by the way, you get major points for seeing that difficult aspect in your synastry chart. It certainly is the one that leapt out at me right away!

Another thing that immediately got my attention is your very tight Sun-Saturn opposition. With your Saturn opposite your daughter’s Sun, I’m guessing that you feel duty bound to parent her, for better or for worse, and her stubborn Taurus nature is going to naturally resist anyone telling her what to do. You’ve probably already figured out that the more you try to advise her or guide her, the more she tunes you out. I’m guessing that she perceives you as controlling, whether or not you actually are.

I would certainly be concerned that she is back in the vicinity and possibly pregnant. As Neith wisely pointed out, you will have to set your boundaries. At this point, it is up to you to focus on your own personal growth and awareness, and to let your daughter grow and develop in her own way, in her own time.

What becomes of your granddaughter is another question, of course. You didn’t give us her chart information, but she is an integral part of this equation and will become more of one the older she gets. Until then, her welfare has to be the primary consideration. Because she is a minor, circumstances may require family counseling at some point. More and more therapists are incorporating astrology into their practice. Hopefully you will be able to find one who understands the difficult dynamics and can help you work through it.

I join Neith in wishing you the best of luck. Thank you so much for writing.

Real Astrologer’s Poll: Ready for Mars Rx Season?

This Sunday Mars stations retrograde at 20° Leo, effectively slowing action to a crawl for most of us. We’ll feel it all the more, since only a few hours later, the Moon in Aquarius (sign of the collective) will oppose Mars.

For those of us with our natal Mars in the fixed signs – Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius – this celestial event likely will be quite evident, for better or worse. Oddly enough, even though Mars has been squaring my natal Mars in Scorpio for the past week or so, I am not feeling noticeably testier or more tired than usual. I am attributing this to the fact Mars is my chart ruler and deliberate is my usual pace.

In this week’s poll, we’d like to know whether you’re feeling any effects of Mars retrograde. If you’ve got any antidotes, leave a comment and let us know. We’re all in this together!

Weekly Forecast December 14: New Moon in Sagittarius, Mars Retrograde

Blewett PassWhen I’m traveling by air, I hate it when the plane lands and, for an agonizing few seconds, I’m subject to the negative g-force. That’s the feeling I have this week as Mars slows down in preparation for turning retrograde.

Although there’s a lot going on astrologically this week, the impending retrograde of Mars is what we’re likely to feel the most. That’s because Mars rules our physical energy, and when he’s slowing down (that’s what it looks like from down here anyway), we tend to do the same.

Mars also rules steel and moving parts, which means we’ll see his effect on holiday traffic. With Mercury also slowing down, we can expect mall traffic to be even more of a nightmare than usual. If you find yourself in that situation, stay alert for drivers who may be inclined to take out their frustrations on the gas pedal.

In her New Moon post, Neith already mentioned the dominant aspects of this week, but I’ll run through them here chronologically.

On Monday, the Sun squares Uranus and sextiles Jupiter. Conflicting angles between the Sun and Uranus sometimes suggest accidents and disruption, and while Jupiter may amplify them and make them really big, his lucky influence also can bring happy endings to tense situations. For many people, this planetary combination may indicate an exciting break in routine for something fun and totally unexpected.

On Tuesday, the Sun sextiles Neptune, which is in a three-way conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron. Sextiles tend to be easy, and often they pass without any notice. It’s also going to be just plain difficult to figure out which planetary combination triggers which event, since there are so many planets involved … kind of like trying to determine who caused a 12-car pileup.

Tuesday’s Moon-Venus conjunction makes this my favorite day of the week for a party or for getting together with friends after work for some holiday cheer.

Wednesday is the New Moon in Sagittarius, three degrees from the Galactic Center. Be on the alert for “downloads.” They could come in brilliant flashes of insight, in dreams, while meditating, or by some other means. Be sure to record these messages somewhere so that you can contemplate them over time.

An hour and a half after the New Moon, the Moon enters somber Capricorn and immediately triggers the Saturn-Pluto square. You may feel lonely, isolated, or disempowered under this influence, but it won’t last long.

Venus trines Mars on Thursday, just as he’s close to a complete halt. She’s got a captive audience, so he’ll just have to sit there and listen to her, and then he’ll go off and think about it. If any of you are having “discussions” with a partner who’s lagging a little behind you spiritually or emotionally, be patient and give him or her some space, while continuing to be completely honest about how you feel.

Saturday’s sextile from Venus to Chiron and square from Venus to Uranus promises to bring a surprising breakthrough in healing a rift between you and someone else.

Mars finally turns retrograde on Sunday. If you’re out and about, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Keep your to-do list short and your shopping reasonable, as it won’t take much to get shopped out. The Moon opposes Mars later in the day, increasing the risk of arguments due to overstimulation and fatigue.

Fortunately, we’ll also have Venus in a lovely sextile to Neptune and Jupiter to lift our spirits and help us remember what the holidays are all about. With so much media pressure to show our love through material gifts, we often forget that the best thing we can give is precious moments truly connecting with those we love.

Love, joy, and holiday wishes to all,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

New Moon in Sagittarius, December 16, 2009

Indi's Christmas StockingBy and large, the focus of the New Moon at 24°39′ Sagittarius on December 16 is on the last quadrant of the zodiac, encouraging us to review our place in the collective and consider carefully where we wish to apply our talents and energies for the benefit of all.

The tight sextile between the New Moon and Jupiter, the Archer’s ruler, is almost sure to bring opportunities for increasing our knowledge base, which Sagittarius lives for. Since Jupiter in Aquarius will make his last conjunction with Neptune on December 21, it will be interesting to see what we have learned over this past year about our personal truths and where we have been deluding ourselves.

December 21 is also the solstice and a very important point in the yearly cycle of dark and light. The next week or so is a very good time for contemplating our progress and setting intentions for the next cycle. This solstice is shaping up to be a powerful turning point, with Mars in Leo stationing retrograde the day before. Both Pat and I will be adding more on this subject between now and then.

Adding clarity to this New Moon is the square to Uranus in Pisces. Squares can be very good for delineating differences, and for allowing us to see them and make changes based on that information. Sagittarius is often impatient with Pisces’ fondness for “going with the flow,” because it wants a clear target to shoot for, not Neptune squishiness. Uranus is always pushing us to take the cutting edge option, but it won’t hurt to make sure you are going with the well-tested version, not the beta.

The Saturn in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn is clearly operating in full force, teaching us lessons in how to relate to others and deal with differences in opinion. I am seeing others (and myself) having to choose between compromises or ending a long-standing relationship.

For some reason, this square is calling to our attention the differences between people’s words and their actions. Pluto in Capricorn pretty much demands accountability for our actions as well as the need for honesty. Saturn in Libra is all about getting real in the way we interact with others. Between the two, we either will clean up our act or be shown the door – I do not see much leeway in this. Those with strong Libra signatures in their charts are bound to be the bellwethers for the rest, because if they are seeing these issues in their relationships and taking action, then sooner or later, it will be happening to others.

On a lighter note, Venus in Sagittarius is having the time of her life right now, with Mars in Leo right there ready to escort her to the nearest holiday party. This influence will be fading by Christmas, so all you fire signs out there better make the most of it while you can. Mars going retrograde and Venus moving into Capricorn on December 26 are sure to give us one heck of a hangover.

Mercury is in Capricorn and slowing down to station retrograde on December 26. We still have some time to take care of business correspondence and enjoy the brisk, matter-of-fact way Capricorn handles communications in general. Have you sent out your Christmas cards and letters yet? If not, better get cracking!

For the New Moon, the Sabian symbol is 25 Sagittarius, “A chubby little rich boy rides upon a hobbyhorse.” My sense is that we have opportunities for imaginative play in a protected situation, but it is important to keep in mind a hobbyhorse only goes back and forth in one place. Enjoy the moment, but remember the party always ends.

Please express your gratitude and appreciation for family and friends every day all year round as well as during this holiday season. It is easy to be generous and loving when life is upbeat, but it is critical to do so when times are tough. Be well and be kind to all who cross your path.

Of course, today is the day to write your New Moon abundance checks! Here’s how.

Ask Real Astrologers: Seeking the Best Legal Outcome

This week’s question comes from Danielle in Michigan:

Two years ago I did something very stupid that got me in serious trouble with the law. It has been an awful two years, and in order to get it behind me, I am going to plead guilty on December 21, the date of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction. Should I try to put off sentencing for a better outcome or try and get it over with on that date?

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Danielle, before I answer your question, I need to qualify that we are not legal experts, and it’s beyond the scope of this column to do the kind of complete astrological reading you would need in order to make a decision of this magnitude.

With that caveat, I will tell you that I’m not happy about the date you’ve selected, even before looking at your chart. Although Jupiter and Neptune can bring good fortune in some cases (operative word some), there are other factors present on this date that could complicate any proceeding, legal or otherwise. The Sun and Pluto are conjunct in Capricorn, representing serious conflicts with authority figures. And that’s just for starters.

Another very important factor is that troublemaker Mars will have just turned retrograde opposite Jupiter and Neptune.

Now, the cardinal T-square, which recently began building when Saturn entered Libra, is going to be very difficult for many people, especially those like you who have chart angles in the early degrees of the cardinal signs. So there isn’t going to be any ideal date for your hearing in the near future. Still, I would hold off, if possible.

In the meantime, find a reputable astrologer who is skilled in electional astrology to do a complete reading in order to find the best date for you. Off the top of my head, I would think that just about any astrologer would tell you to wait until after Mars turns direct in mid-March.

I wish you the very best of luck with your challenging situation and hope you get the best possible outcome for all concerned.

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Danielle, I agree with Pat on changing the date if possible, but if you cannot, then there are factors I believe may prove helpful for you. I suspect you generally are good at helping yourself, since you have a very nice grand trine in fire in your chart (Sun, Saturn and Pluto).

First, the Aquarius stellium of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron will be sextile your Sun and trine your natal Jupiter in Libra. This configuration will support your ability to put your best “face” on and project willingness to be honest. Being absolutely honest is often the best defense. It throws those in the legal system off balance, as they are far more used to being lied to.

Second, the Saturn in Libra square to Pluto in Capricorn is working on reintroducing equity and justice once more into our legal system. Saturn in Libra may be stern, but it is always fair and even-handed. Pluto in Capricorn can come across as harsh and authoritative, but at this time, Saturn in Libra is demanding that Pluto remember to be just.

I also believe the timing of this coming right on the heels of your Chiron return is no accident, either. We can experience a subtle sea change in the way we view our old wounds and patterns of causing harm to ourselves at that time, often emerging with a fresh perspective and desire to avoid beating our heads against those particular walls anymore.

Be honest and direct as only those with an Aries Sun can! I wish you well and join Pat in hoping for the best possible outcome for all concerned.

Ask Our Readers: Your Holiday Wish List

a frosting of snow on cedars and text 525px

The standard astrology article for the winter holidays tells you how to pick gifts by sign. I’ve written several of those myself. So Neith and I would like to try something different.

This year, we’d like you to tell us what you’d most like for the holidays, and then sign off with your Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs. Just think: If enough of you participate, we might collectively change everyone’s approach to gift-giving. Maybe Gemini doesn’t really want gloves and Sagittarius doesn’t most want a new iPod!

Since I started this, I’ll go first…

As an Aquarius, I’m supposed to want freedom, but freedom for what? I would like Santa to bring me the freedom to do the work I love, as much of it as I want to and can do.

More than that, I’d like a bottomless pitcher of love.

My stats: Aquarius, with Aquarius Rising and Moon in Pisces.

Your turn!

Weekly Forecast December 7: Mercury Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn

Christmas in Leavenworth. © James A. Weythman, 2009.

I know I’ve written this before, but now I really, really mean it: We’re in a time of major shifts, and it’s hard to keep our bearings when the ground isn’t steady under our feet.

This can be nerve-wracking or it can be exciting, depending on your point of view. Maybe both at the same time. I concede that, as a fixed-sign person, changes are harder for me to adjust to, and that tends to color my take on what’s happening in the sky. But humans in general don’t like change, even positive changes that we know we need. And all growth requires change.

I see this week as an incubation period. Now that Uranus is direct, all the planets and even the major asteroids are direct until Mars turns retrograde on December 20. We have a short window in which we can advance by light years. That applies to personal development, relationships, career moves, domestic circumstances, and specific projects we may be working on.

On Monday, Jupiter conjoins Chiron for the third and last time, and we also are approaching the final conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune (exact on December 21), not to be repeated for another 13 years. There is a real opportunity for deep healing of old wounds, especially those that are imprinted in our energy field. This is a subtle business, though, so you will have to be very observant and pay attention to understand how this particular aspect is manifesting. If you’ve been working on your own healing for the past year, you’ll see results in the next two weeks. Finally, you can look and see how far you’ve come.

If you need help playing detective and getting to the root of matters, Monday’s Mercury-Pluto conjunction will go a long way toward increasing your understanding. What comes up may not be comfortable, but it will be the truth. We can’t solve problems if we don’t understand what’s causing them.

Because this conjunction is in Capricorn, it also should help with financial issues. Watch for news about scandals involving money. Since Mercury also squares Saturn on the same day, news stories may involve government regulation and industry efforts to avoid having to meet stricter codes. Personally, we may find that the way to resolve issues that come up this week is belt-tightening or some other form of self-discipline.

As I mentioned in last week’s forecast, Mercury is slowing down in preparation to turn retrograde later this month. That means that all aspects this week involving Mercury will have more impact than they normally would. The Messenger enters his pre-retrograde shadow period on Thursday, so start wrapping up all your shopping and mailing. It would be best not to purchase any expensive items or electronic devices after this date.

Fortunately, the Sun is still in fun-loving Sagittarius, and on Thursday, it trines Mars in Leo, another party sign. Early season holiday parties will be lively. If you’re planning one, include lots of music and a place to dance, as well as strings of colorful holiday lights.

Do take advantage of this chance to have a good time, because Mercury and Mars retrograde are going to take their toll this holiday season, in ways that you may not be able to foresee right now. The healing work we do this week will be much more effective, too, if we laugh and have fun.

Wishing you all much love, joy and laughter,
Aquarius, the sign of astrologyPat

Saturday Extra! Holiday Planning with Mercury Retrograde

Blizzard in the UKAs most of you know, another Mercury retrograde period will be upon us soon, just in time to mess with the best-laid holiday plans.

With Mars also about to go into reverse, the typical delays and frustrations that vex us while Mercury is retrograde could cause temper tantrums and emotional meltdowns everywhere. The holidays are stressful enough as it is, and I’m sorry to have to report that this season may be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Fortunately, since you know about this in advance, you can take some measures to mitigate the worst effects of Mercury retrograde. Indeed, all of you seem to be aware of this already. According to our Wednesday poll, the majority of you are planning to get your shopping and mailing done early, before Mercury and Mars go retrograde and turn all the UPS trucks into pumpkins.

As for holiday shopping and other daily activities, the usual caveats apply and then some. Be absolutely sure to buy all big-ticket items early this month. Hopefully, you even took advantage of all those Black Friday specials and have most of your major shopping out of the way. Electronic devices in particular need to be purchased while Mercury is direct. Watches, a popular gift item, also should be purchased now, as should cars and auto accessories – anything that has to do with transportation.

Most companies don’t make hiring decisions at this time of year, and they may put off important new business until after the first of the year. That will be problematic, as Mercury will be retrograde until January 15. If you get a new job opportunity, hopefully you’ll be able to stall signing the contract until then.

The effects of Mars retrograde are a bit harder to deal with and will take some mindfulness to counter. First of all, we all will need to make a sincere effort to communicate clearly, and when the inevitable breakdowns occur, we will have to resist the urge to blame the other person. Even if it seems like the other person was insensitive or not paying attention, respond with love and kindness, and be willing to forgive and forget. If the person in question really is malicious or intentionally showing you disrespect, that will come out again later, and you can deal with it then.

I’ll have more on Mercury in my weekly forecast on Monday. In the meantime, I wish you all much love and abundance.

Ask Real Astrologers: Does the Saturn-Pluto Square Affect My Chart?

This week’s question comes from Timothy in Berlin, Germany:

Is it possible to get a short overview of the Saturn-Pluto square regarding how it influences my natal planets, please … or at least how I’ll get on?

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Timothy, with your natal Saturn trine your Sun and Venus blessing you with a natural understanding of how to deal with responsibilities, Saturn in Libra is not likely to cause you problems.

Saturn in Libra will not actually reach your natal Saturn until October 2010, though I’m sure you will be aware of its affects via the trine to your natal Venus. Perhaps you will be reminded of why you choose to respect others’ boundaries and generally behave respectfully towards your family, friends and lovers.

Pluto in Capricorn will probably start affecting your chart in 2011, when it will square your natal Saturn and inconjunct your Sun. This past year Pluto was inconjunct your Venus, giving you a taste of this inconjunct. Capricorn tends to feel Gemini is just a little too flighty, and Gemini finds Capricorn stuffy. Often the best route to handling these disparate energies is the old “agree to disagree” option.

Even if you will have little difficulty with Saturn squaring Pluto, Timothy, do be prepared for others around you complaining about their relationships. One of the differences between Saturn and Pluto in mutable signs (Virgo and Sagittarius) as compared to cardinal, is that people will be willing to take extreme action instead of just talking about it. It is worth noting the relationships that fail probably were seriously flawed.

Enjoy the remainder of this year’s Sagittarius season, Timothy!

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Timothy, as you probably know, your natal Saturn is in early Libra, which means, first of all, that you are about to experience a Saturn return – that is, transiting Saturn is about to return to the degree it occupied in your natal chart. Saturn returns happen in our late 20s, late 50s, and late 80s. This is an important milestone in your life, even without the square between transiting Saturn and Pluto.

Whether or not we are aware of this influence, we typically begin examining our priorities and determining what we value. What has no value or purpose in life, we throw overboard, whether it’s material possessions, unfulfilling relationships, or life circumstances. What weighs us down or holds us back has to go. If we don’t make a conscious effort to get rid of what we no longer need, situations may arise that take these things away from us, and this can seem really random and cruel.

I believe that the Saturn-Pluto square is going to have this same effect on a broad scale. Many people are downsizing, buying less, and getting rid of extraneous possessions. For some, this will be a necessity due to widespread economic hardship. The effect for you may be amplified … or not. There’s a real possibility that you may not notice any significant effect at all. Transiting Pluto makes a happy sextile to your natal Mars and a supportive trine to your Moon in practical Virgo. This combination will make it easier for you to make changes, and to do so in a logical, matter-of-fact way.

Thanks for the timely question, Timothy, and best of luck to you.
