Ask Our Readers: How Did the Eclipses Affect You?

We normally do a poll on Wednesdays, and we’re truly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to respond. However, we’d like to throw something a little different into the mix, primarily to allow you a wider range of expression.

Starting this week, we’re going to pose an open-ended question, and we’d like you to leave an answer in your own words. You can be as brief or as windy as you like – this is your opportunity to sound off.

If you’re not registered to leave comments, you’ll have to do so, but it’s quick and easy. Please just rest assured that we will not give your email address to anyone, for any reason.

So … let’s get started. Here’s this week’s question:

Now that the August eclipses are over, how do you view the changes they brought into your life? Were they disruptive or beneficial?

Please tell us your Rising sign, or even better still (if you know) what houses in your natal chart the eclipses occurred.

Ask Real Astrologers: Why Is My Daughter Going Through Hell?

This week’s question comes from Marilyn in Sacramento.

Real is 37, a gifted Pisces. The last two years she has found herself without a home, a full time job, her children cannot be with her right now. She is living in a garage and developed Meniers disease in her one ear. She is having a terrible time of depression, anxiety, and a huge weight gain. My heart is breaking for my beautiful, talented Real.

Thank you for any answers you might be able to furnish. It’s been a hard time of testing.

Libra ponders . . .Neith’s response:

Marilyn, your daughter has undergone some pretty tough transits over the past couple of years so it is not surprising she has been feeling depressed and discouraged. For starters, a couple of years ago Saturn in Leo was squaring her natal Saturn in her seventh house putting her in a tough position with her career and relationship demands.

At the same time Pluto was conjunct her Mars in Sagittarius in her second house. Because she has Scorpio rising, Mars is her chart ruler, and transits to Mars will be especially powerful. Real also has a natal Mars-Pluto square, so this Pluto transit undoubtedly increased the obsessive side of her nature. Pluto transits to the second house can cause major changes to one’s value system and personal income.

Along with Saturn and Pluto transits, she was experiencing Uranus conjunct her Sun. Uranus transits in general push us to recognize unmet needs and often precipitate dramatic changes. Real’s Sun in Pisces is part of a Yod, with Uranus at the apex and her Sun sextile Saturn as the base. This makes any transits to her Sun more strongly felt because they trigger her natal Sun-Uranus inconjunct, throwing her off-balance. Simply put, Real is at heart a dependable person with moments of rebellion and Uranus came along and tweaked her rebellious side with a vengeance.

Over the next couple of months Saturn will be opposing her Sun and trine her natal Saturn, helping her find her feet again. Uranus is a year or so away from squaring her natal Moon in Gemini, and Pluto finished opposing her Moon last year, so hopefully she will be able to take advantage of the Saturn transits to address her situation and begin to improve it.

Please accept my best wishes for both you and your daughter seeing happier times very soon. I can recommend an excellent book by Donna Cunningham, Healing Pluto Problems, to help Real understand what it means to have Pluto dominant in one’s chart, as he is in hers.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s answer:

Marilyn, I don’t have children of my own but can only imagine how your heart must be breaking to see your beautiful daughter going through such hell. All I can tell you is that I have been in such a place a couple of times in my life, and it is possible to survive and come out stronger.

And I do believe that she will. I have been writing a lot on the Real Astrologers blog as well as on my personal blog, The Pisces Chronicles, about an unusual set of planetary transits that are happening simultaneous with the current series of eclipses in Aquarius and Leo. Real’s lunar North Node is at 23 degrees Aquarius, which not only is being activated by the eclipses (this Saturday’s eclipse is at 24 degrees, very close to her North Node), but by transiting Neptune and Chiron.

As I’ve written elsewhere, a window has opened for deep healing, especially of old wounds from childhood or even that we brought into this life with us. Real is being directly affected by this healing energy. But, as I’ve also pointed out, healing can be painful, because it means reopening the old wound, which can hurt as much or more than the original injury.

This eclipse series began in February and lasts until August of next year, and it falls in Real’s fourth and tenth houses, which pertain to her home, family, and job. I would expect changes to her circumstances in these areas of her life, and since it doesn’t sound like things could get much worse, the changes that take place over the next year should greatly improve her life.

One area that may continue to be troublesome, however, is her situation with her children. Uranus, the planet of sudden change and upset, currently is transiting her fifth house, which rules children, and there will be a tough opposition of Saturn and Uranus starting this November and lasting until September 2009. Real will fare best if she accepts the help and intervention of others rather than taking a rebellious stance.

Much love and courage to both of you.

Ask Real Astrologers: Who’s Good Enough for This Aries?

This week’s question comes from Suzette in New Mexico:

I am at my wit’s end. I’m divorced for five years and have been married twice.

In January, I left my boyfriend of a year and a half, whom I loved with all of my heart, because our values clashed and there were seemingly insurmountable issues. I’ve put myself back out on the dating scene since then but I haven’t found a single man I’m attracted to in the least. They’re too short, too unemployed, too much baggage, too shallow, too young, too old, too what have you. Have had to beat them off with a stick, as I’m still nice-looking and am carrying myself with my usual saucy confidence, but wow, is there anyone out there I’m ever going to click with again?

I have a lot of love and life in me yet, and with no clearly worthy suitor to say yes to, I’m adrift and bereft. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Libra ponders . . .Neith’s response:

Suzette, the first thing I noticed when looking at your chart was Uranus and Pluto in Virgo sitting in your seventh house out of orb of aspecting your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars). This tells me that the archetypes and energies those two heavyweights bring are not easy for you to connect with. For you, the best option is to learn about Uranus and Pluto and gain understanding of how those archetypes are at work within yourself. Many times the key is recognition, because once we have identified our issues we can begin to work with them. Until we do, they can walk through the door on two feet and create all kinds of havoc in our lives.

The opposition between your Aries Sun-Saturn conjunction and your Moon in Libra also reflect the importance of bringing your emotional nature and intrinsic self into balance. Your Moon is the apex of a Yod with Mercury sextile Venus as the base. Spending time sorting what you truly value and what you can live with in relationships and what the deal-breakers are will help immensely.

Mars in Scorpio in the eighth house puts the spotlight on unwritten contracts. In other words, what are your expectations of how you are to behave as a married person? Do you feel you need to behave differently as a married woman than a single one? And what do you expect from your spouse? All of these questions are eighth house issues for sure.

Good luck with your quest, Suzette!

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Suzette, I agree wholeheartedly with Neith and would like to add that your Sun-Saturn conjunction makes you susceptible to expecting perfection in yourself. Because your Moon is opposite your Sun (you were a Full Moon baby), you may be projecting this unreasonable expectation onto a partner.

In terms of what’s to come for you, I see two major transits that will affect your search, and both support examining yourself before finding the right partner.

First, Saturn currently is transiting your seventh house of marriage and partnership. Close relationships often break up during this transit, so it’s no surprise that you left your boyfriend. Just as often, however, we end up getting into new commitments with Saturn in this key area of our charts, so it’s very possible that once you’ve got some important issues worked out in your own mind, you will attract someone who’s right for you.

Second, Neptune currently is sitting on your Ascendant, in conjunction with Chiron and the North Node. I’ve written a lot on my blog, The Pisces Chronicles, about how this configuration combined with the current eclipse series has created a window of opportunity for deep healing of past wounds. When we do this, we are more able to find loving, stable partnerships.

I’d also like to note that transiting Uranus is sitting on your natal Chiron in the first house, so you will be pushed into doing a certain amount of healing work, whether or not you feel ready or want to.

I will share a personal story with you about my online dating experience. Most of the Internet dating sites allow you to fill out a “laundry list” of things you’re looking for in a partner. The one I was using let you rate these desires as being nice to have or non-negotiable. I put only three requirements in the latter category, and I recently met someone who doesn’t meet two of those three requirements and with whom I’ve felt more of a connection and have done more personal growth work than anyone I’ve ever been with in my life (two marriages with two long-term relationships in between).

I believe that when you find the right person, his looks and imperfections won’t matter a bit.

I think you’d gain a lot through a full astrological consultation. I currently am not accepting new clients due a higher-than-normal workload, but I highly recommend Neith (of course!), who is thorough, gentle, and amazingly insightful

Wishing you nothing but true love.

Ask Real Astrologers: Will the Leo Eclipse Be Disruptive?

This week’s question comes from Ruth in the UK:

Hello Pat and Neith,

Thank you so much for this wonderful website. I am a student astrologer and am learning so much here!

I’m interested in esoteric astrology and moon cycles, and I’m not sure how much this overlaps with your work, but my question is just how disruptive will this eclipse in the New Moon in Leo be in my life? … I’m really worried. I have a habit of “attacking” those closest to me under stress, and even though I’ve done a lot of personal process work and am fairly “enlightened,” ;0) this one has me a bit worried to say the least! I don’t want to roar and bite people’s heads off, then regret it!

Aquarius expounds . . . Pat’s response:

Ruth, as you no doubt know, today’s eclipse falls at 9 degrees Leo, which is just a few degrees from your natal Moon at 12 degrees Leo. As a Rising Cancer, you have the Moon as your chart ruler, which makes you all the more sensitive to the raw energy of eclipses (and also explains your interest in lunar cycles!).

So yes, you are going to feel it emotionally. And it won’t be just this eclipse that you feel, but the entire series, which began on February 6, 2008, and runs to August 6, 2009 (for more on the eclipses, see my weekly forecast and Neith’s New Moon post). You are being pushed to grow emotionally, and this usually is disruptive in some way. At the very least, it is going to push you out of your comfort zone.

It sounds like you already have some idea, though, of what you need to learn, and that’s a great start. The degree of disruption that planetary aspects trigger depends on how much we are resisting change and how tightly we are trying to hang onto people, things, and situations.

As for your propensity to attack, I think that has more to do with your natal Saturn in the seventh house, which currently is being conjoined by transiting Jupiter. Jupiter’s influence is expansive and growth-oriented, and this is why you are open to the experience of growth via your relationships.

I would strongly encourage you to get a transit reading. I am currently booked and not accepting new clients, but Neith has a bit of room in her schedule.

Good luck with your astrology work, and thank you so much for the kind words!

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

What I would like to add, Ruth, is with a natal Sun-Venus conjunction in Gemini, your nature is gentle and airy making your emotional “roaring” uncomfortable for you. Your sensitive Cancer Ascendant places extra emphasis on the Moon, so it’s easy to understand your concern.

The New Moon Leo stellium conjunct your natal Moon is triggering all the natal aspects to the Moon, including a square to Neptune. Neptune-Moon aspects are notorious for confusing our understanding of what it is we are feeling. How do those you “roar” at respond? Perhaps it bothers them less than it bothers you to do it.

Your natal Saturn in the seventh house is inconjunct your Moon, and that makes me wonder if you received the message that good little girls don’t raise their voices. If you had been born to an Italian family, where raised voices and emoting were the norm, your naturally dramatic Leo Moon may have been right at home.

If I may make a suggestion, on those days when your fiery Moon is feeling volatile, give your friends and family advance notice. I’m sure your charming Gemini self can come with the right words to smooth the way. Good luck!

Ask Real Astrologers: Difficult Saturn Cycles

This week we are responding to two questions related to Saturn.

First, from Fiona in the UK:

This year I seem to be repeating events in my life that last occurred 14 years ago. The order and outcome are different but the component parts are the same/similar. It is a complete breakdown and rebuild of all aspects of my life. I’ve gone back to 28 years and 42 years ago and the same seems to have happened in those years, too! Is there a transit/life cycle that occurs every 14 years that I should study/learn about so that I’m more prepared in 2022? P.S. I have a close friend who also seems to be going through the same cycle this year.

The second question is from Sarah in San Jose, California:

I’m a 28-year-old female with a Saturn stellium (Sun, Moon, and Saturn all in Virgo in the fourth house). Is this an unlucky combination? Is my Saturn return going to be great and rewarding or absolutely painful? I have already experienced some drastic changes in my life and I feel like more are on the way!

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Both Fiona and Sarah are dealing with Saturn in all his glory by transit and natally, no easy task.

Fiona, what you are describing are classic Saturn cycle experiences. And in your case with Saturn-ruled Capricorn rising, you will find your awareness of any Saturn transit to your natal Saturn will make itself felt. Since September of last year, Saturn has made three passes trine to your natal Saturn in Capricorn and conjoined your natal Pluto at the same time. Saturn conjunct natal Pluto is keenly felt also.

Saturn is moving now to square your Moon and hopefully by the end of October you will get a breather. While no Saturn transit is easy, if we follow the rules and behave in a responsible manner, we can get through them in one piece. Good luck with this!

Sarah, as you undergo your first Saturn return, keep in mind it is a process. There will be days when you feel like the weight of world is bearing down on you, but this will pass. With a Sun, Moon, Saturn stellium in Virgo I’m going to guess you are a pretty responsible sort naturally and once Saturn completes his transit you will feel much better about yourself and life in general.

I don’t see any aspect set as being unlucky and especially not those with Saturn. He is a hard taskmaster but ultimately a fair one. The gains we make through Saturn are beneficial and long lasting, if painful in the initial stages. When Saturn moves on into Libra late in 2009, you can look back and heave a sign of relief!

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Before I respond to Fiona and Sarah, let me clarify what we’re talking about here for those who may have less knowledge of astrology.

A planetary “return” occurs when that planet returns to the exact position it was on the day you were born. Saturn’s orbit around the Sun is 28-29 years, so we all experience Saturn returns in our late 20s and again in our late 50s. In between, there are seven-year segments, thus the 14-year cycle that Fiona notes. This is also called a Saturn “half-return” and can be as powerful and disruptive as the return itself. Also, due to Saturn’s longer orbit and retrograde cycle, Saturn transits usually occur in a three-part series, as Neith notes above.

With that background, I’ll start with Sarah’s question. Sarah, the first Saturn return can be traumatic or simply maturing, depending on how you have handled your life up to this point. My life completely changed around at my first Saturn return, and this was much-needed. It’s not too melodramatic to say that what happened at that time almost killed me, but I got through it, and my life opened up in ways that I never would have imagined, including finding a new love.

But it’s not always that dramatic. I was talking to a man in his early 30s the other day who told me that he got a divorce at his first Saturn return, and while it initially threw him for a loop, he quickly realized that it was the best thing that ever happened to him. In the weeks and months that followed, he got a great new job and started down an exciting career path, and his life seemed to take form.

That said, I expect that you will feel this keenly due to your Virgo stellium — and, by the way, I agree with Neith that there are no “unlucky” aspects. Some are more challenging than others, that is for sure, but there is usually compensation built into the chart somewhere to help you meet those challenges. And I also agree with Neith that a Sun-Saturn conjunction in Virgo makes you extremely responsible.

Fiona, I don’t have much to add to Neith’s analysis, but can say that the instant I read your question, I knew that we were talking about Saturn. It’s also interesting that you should mention the 42-year cycle, which is half a Uranus orbit. The so-called “midlife crisis” occurs at the Uranus half-return.

Among other things, Saturn’s transit through your chart indicates how your life is taking structure and form. Saturn is about manifestation into material reality, which is why he’s sometimes referred to as the planet of karma. Although it may feel like you are the victim of circumstances, many of the situations and people in your life now are a result of choices and decisions you made during previous critical points in the Saturn cycle.

In other words, what we do may have longer-lasting implications than we know or would like to believe. Rather than feeling bad about this, we can use this knowledge of how Saturn works to make better choices for our future.

Best of luck to you both, and please do keep us posted. When readers write to us with their experiences, we become better astrologers.

Ask Real Astrologers: Help!

This week’s question comes from Rose in Melbourne, Australia:

Nothing is going right for me. I have a teenage son who has developed a drug problem, my seven-year relationship ended last year, and work is tough. I make an effort every day to stay positive and ask the universe for guidance, but the last 12 month are one step forward and ten steps back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Rose, it looks like you have been slammed by several major transits over the past year and I think you are doing well to still be working on maintaining a positive attitude! One of the major events over this past winter was Mars in Cancer going retrograde and with your Aries rising and natal Mars in Cancer that had to have felt exactly as you said, “one step forward and ten steps back.”

At the beginning of this time period, Saturn in Leo transited your natal Uranus in Leo, triggering your natal Uranus square to your Moon. This translates into all matters pertaining to home and family being highlighted, because of the Moon-fourth house connection.

The problems with your son appear to have been triggered by Saturn’s transit into your fifth house, which pertains to children. Your natal Pluto and South Node are on the fifth house cusp, which means that Saturn will soon conjoin these two points. Hopefully when Saturn moves past this point in mid-August, matters will begin to heal, as Saturn in Virgo also promotes handling health-related issues in sensible manner.

When Pluto returns to Capricorn in November, you will begin a journey in self-discovery. Pluto transits to personal planets are capable of transforming our personal landscapes but they are not easy. Jupiter’s passage over your natal Mercury, Sun, Jupiter and Saturn have given you a hint of what’s to come. When Jupiter turns direct in September and transits over your Jupiter and Saturn heading for Aquarius shortly after the first of 2009, you may start to see more resolution of the current set of challenges.

Good luck!

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

My heart goes out to you, Rose. One look at your chart tells me that you are going through a hard time, indeed.

There is not much I can add to Neith’s excellent analysis, except to say that I recently went through my Saturn-Pluto conjunction, and I have a couple of clients who also experienced this difficult transit, so I know firsthand how it can make us feel stuck in every area of our lives. You feel like you’re being hit from all sides at once, and there’s no safe harbor.

But I can also tell you that I experienced some important life changes as a result, and I’m feeling more “myself” than I have in my whole life. I think this will happen for you, too, once you get through this “dark night of the soul.” Among other things, you may develop a new relationship with your son based on a stronger role as a parent and loving guide.

Hang in there, and stay in touch.

Stuck and don’t know what to do? Consider having Neith or Pat do a transit reading for you. You can find out more on our forecast page.

Ask Real Astrologers: Is a New Start Coming?

This week’s question comes from Bruce in Philadelphia:

I am recently divorced, and have dealt with a variety of 12th house transits (Aquarius). The progressed Moon is coming to my Ascendant and Saturn is in the seventh house. I am wondering if new start is coming.

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

By mid-September, Bruce, you should be feeling like moving forward because by that time, the progressed Moon will have crossed your Ascendant and Saturn will have moved past your progressed Sun in Virgo.

As someone whose Sun is conjunct Uranus and Venus and sextile Jupiter, you probably see change as a positive means to an end – especially with Uranus-ruled Aquarius Rising. Your natal Moon is in Aquarius recently was conjoined by the progressed Moon, pushing emotional independence as a theme in your life. The transit of the progressed Moon over your Ascendant in the first half of August will incline you to announce your internal changes to the world at large.

Saturn transiting your seventh house is a time of learning to take partnerships seriously and also gaining understanding about what you will and will not put up with in your relationships in general. Around August 19, Saturn will conjoin your progressed Sun. Don’t be surprised to find yourself feeling blocked around that time. However the transit will past by the end of the month, and your outlook is bound to improve!

Saturn’s lessons may be tough, but when we gain understanding about ourselves as a result, they are worth it. Best wishes on finding your new direction to a better and happier life.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Bruce, as you may know from reading our blog, I always start with transits to the natal chart before moving to the progressed chart. As Neith noted, Saturn’s entry into the seventh house can be a heavy time for close relationships. I can’t tell you how many clients I’ve seen who got divorced when Saturn was in their seventh house or the seventh house of their partner.

But Saturn’s crossing the Descendant also is a time of new beginnings. In the 29-year Saturn cycle, the years between Saturn’s transit of the Descendant and the Midheaven are the highest-growth period of your life. This is good news.

As for your progressed Moon on the Ascendant, this confirms that your “new beginning” indeed has to do with relationships, but mostly because you are growing and maturing and, as a result, are experiencing intimacy in a different way than you used to. Your Aquarius Moon doesn’t like a lot of emotional complications (one well-known astrologer once quipped that Aquarius doesn’t tolerate any more baggage than will fit in the overhead compartment), but true intimacy and commitment are messy, there’s no getting around it.

Wishing you much courage. Stay in touch and let us know how you’re doing.

Ask Real Astrologers: Why Do Pisces Women Cheat?

This week’s question comes from Crystal in Portland, OR:

I had a Pisces friend who was cheating with a guy at the office while she was married to a good friend of my husband and me (I don’t speak to her anymore because of it). My sister-in-law is a Pisces, and she was cheating on her husband, too. A couple of years ago, a woman was hitting on my husband. She was a Pisces. Pisces women cheat and lie. What’s up with this?

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

Crystal, I have to admit that I laughed when I read your question. One certainly would jump to that conclusion, given your experience. However, an empirical sample of three isn’t enough to brand all Pisces women with a scarlet letter.

What we can say about Pisces in general is that there can be a tendency toward situational ethics that drives other signs nuts, especially those that need firm rules and boundaries, like Capricorn and Leo. Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces, is the planet of dreams, illusion, and delusion. Yes, there can be a certain amount of deception, but it’s usually not a deliberate intent to mislead or deceive.

Pisces often sees the bigger picture, which means they may have a different value system than society at large. This is not a gender-specific trait, and it can apply to Pisces, Rising Pisces, or anyone with strong Pisces or Neptunian influence in their chart. I recently met a man with Neptune on the Ascendant who told me a flat-out lie and was mortally offended when I called him on it. I truly believe he didn’t think he was lying.

That said, Pisces and people with strong Pisces in their charts can get away with lying like no other sign. They are so charming and sincere that you believe them without question. Anyone with this astrological “gift” who does want to cover up something will do so brilliantly. You probably don’t want that kind within a nautical mile of your husband.

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

I agree with Pat, Crystal. While your experience with Pisces women may suggest they are the sirens of the zodiac, there are plenty of others who say the same thing about Gemini, Scorpio, Leo, etc. It may have more to do with what’s going on in your chart to draw this type of situation to you.

Pisces people and those with a strong Neptune influence in their charts tend to be romantics and often more enamored with the idea of romance than the reality. There is a great deal of truth to them seeing life and love through rose-colored glasses.

Another factor to be considered with the Neptune-ruled is how easy it is to project expectations and illusions onto them. Behaviors they see as just being friendly can be misconstrued as flirting. Most people with a strong Pisces influence in their charts tend to be kind and sympathetic sorts and genuinely caring people. The caveat is this is often a less personal and more general expression of caring. Neptune is the higher octave of Venus and deals with compassion rather than passion, but it’s easy to confuse the two when the lovely Pisces lady you are talking to at a party is apparently hanging on your every word.

My recommendation if you find yourself falling for a Neptune type is to get a second opinion from a dispassionate third party. It’s a whole lot easier to see what’s going on from the outside looking in!

Ask Real Astrologers: Square Sun signs that work

This week’s question comes from Katie in San Rafael, CA:

I’m a Gemini and my husband is a Pisces. We’ve been married for 15 years (second marriage for both of us) and I consider him my best friend. But according to astrology, we shouldn’t even get along. I had a reading a long time ago, and the astrologer was so accurate it was scary. But astrology is totally inaccurate in terms of my own personal experience in my relationship. Can you explain this?

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s response:

Katie, this is a good example of why Sun sign astrology can be misleading when it comes to relationships. Your Pisces husband has his Moon in Sagittarius, which is very harmonious with your Gemini Sun. In addition, your Moon in fiery Leo is quite happy relating to his Moon in Sagittarius, creating an atmosphere of emotional understanding and making it much easier to synchronize your daily routines.

He has Sagittarius as his Rising sign, placing Gemini on the cusp of the seventh house of partnerships and the same sign as your Sun. Another plus is your Mercury in Gemini conjunct his Descendant, and that is good for communications. This aspect is strengthened because Mercury is Gemini’s ruler.

Your Ascendant in Cancer and his Pisces Sun are in a favorable trine, adding another positive tie between your charts. A parallel working for this relationship is him having his Sun in a mutable sign and located in his third house, so it operates much more like your Gemini Sun, suggesting you two have lots to talk about.

Enjoy your lively relationship!

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s response:

I couldn’t agree more with Neith and would like to emphasize the limitations of Sun sign astrology when it comes to compatibility in intimate relationships. There is so much more to it.

In addition to Neith’s analysis, I’d like to add that your Venus is in a very close sextile to your husband’s Mars, indicating a dynamic sexual attraction. I have yet to find a couple that has been together for many years that doesn’t have this “glue” to hold their relationship together.

Of course, this also means that his Mars is almost directly opposite your Moon. Moon-Mars aspects typically indicate powerful sexual chemistry, but when they’re in opposition, there may be some tension surrounding intimacy. Still, tension is not always a bad thing and can be great for your sex life.

Lastly, I’d like to note that your Sun is in the first degree of Gemini, while your husband’s Sun is in the last degree of Pisces. In other words, he’s almost an Aries. In fact, your Sun signs don’t conflict at all but actually are in a positive, harmonious relationship.

Thanks for writing, and best wishes to you both.

Ask Real Astrologers: Pluto on Progressed Ascendant

This week’s question comes from Fumi in the UK:

My Progressed Ascendant is going to be conjunct the full moon in Sagittarius in June, and transiting Pluto is going to retrograde back to and station on my Progressed Ascendant. My Progressed AC will also trine my progressed Uranus. I would like to know your opinion of what this is all likely to mean.

I also have my progressed Jupiter conjunct my progressed 2nd house cusp, as well as transiting Pluto trining my natal and progressed Uranus. After Pluto’s intense 12-year period in Sagittarius, I am seriously meditating on bringing about a major positive breakthrough in my affairs in total.

Libra ponders . . .

Neith’s answer:

Fumi, the experience of Pluto conjunct the Ascendant, whether progressed or natal, often has to do with becoming aware of how we express power and control over our environment and the people in it. Pluto transited your natal Ascendant from 1994 to 1995, during which you went through the first phase of learning these lessons.

Now, as Pluto is finishing his stay in Sagittarius, I suspect that you are in the final stages of assimilating what he has to teach. As one who has been down this road (I also have Scorpio Rising), I found the key is staying neutral and not diving into the nearest power struggle, because it’s very easy to become lost in the obsessions that way.

Since Jupiter rules your Sun, the progressed Ascendant, and Pluto in Sagittarius, I can see why you are paying attention to these transits! You are right in feeling that you are on the verge of a major breakthrough. The key may be doing your best to avoid placing specific expectations on what that will be. With Uranus forming trines, it will be easier to find the path of least resistance to your destination.

If I may make a suggestion on how to maintain a sense of centeredness, it would be to practice some type of moving meditation like Tai Chi. Sagittarius folk do better in motion than sitting still.

Aquarius expounds . . .

Pat’s Answer:

Fumi, I tend to look at transits to the natal chart first – just as I rely on the 10 planets (yes, Pluto is one) before exploring Chiron, the asteroids, lunar nodes, and other factors that I consider as supplemental information. If the basics don’t reveal what we need to know, then I start exploring beyond them. Put another way, I don’t use the progressed chart to explain things that are readily apparent in transits to the natal chart.

Since Pluto already has crossed your natal Ascendant, my take is that you’ve already been there, done that (as Neith suggests) and that you’re moving on to new lessons. These lessons have to do with what you value. Material assets are one component of your resources, so changing how you go about managing your resources is part of this transformation.

I also see that Pluto is squaring your natal Moon. He got close earlier this year but went retrograde before making a direct connection. That will happen early next year. All the power struggle issues that Neith describes will be evident in your life, and then some…

As for Jupiter, he has been in your natal second house since late November 2007, and Jupiter and Pluto conjoined in this important financial sector of your chart on December 11. Many people I know, myself included, experienced a breakthrough related to this transit, but it didn’t happen until months later, due to all the complicating planetary aspects that were happening at the time (Mars out of bounds and retrograde, for one).

With Jupiter in practical Capricorn, it makes all the more sense that you are building a strong material foundation. The Big Guy currently is retrograde but turns direct with Pluto on September 8. Major breakthroughs are possible after this date, so use this energy well.

Thanks for writing, and best of luck to you!
